Every visible and invisible character you type — letters, numbers, punctuation, spaces, line breaks, and emoji. Emoji made of joined parts (family, flags) count as a single character.
Yes, by default. Two counts are shown side-by-side: Characters (includes spaces and line breaks) and Characters (no spaces). Pick whichever fits your platform rules.
Latin words are scored at 200 words per minute (the usual silent-reading pace). Japanese / Chinese / Korean characters are scored at 500 characters per minute. If your text mixes both, the two are added together.
Yes. Kanji, hiragana, katakana, and half-width kana are all counted. The tool uses your browser's Unicode segmentation so mixed Japanese and English text is handled correctly.
No. All counting happens in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, logged, or stored.
